  • Atmospheric sulphur deposition contributes to the acidification of soil and considerably can influence soil processes. In this contribution an influence of the atmospheric sulphur deposition on total organic and ammonia nitrogen contents in long-term non-fertilised bare fallow field experiments is analysed. Present analyses showed a lack of statistically significant correlation between total organic nitrogen content in the soil and the atmospheric content of sulphur dioxide. This fact suggests that acidification of the soil by acid rain have no significant influence on total organic nitrogen dynamics. On other hand, a strong positive correlation between atmospheric content of sulphur dioxide and ammonia nitrogen content in the soil is documented. This fact suggests that a high atmospheric sulphur deposition not only contributes to the acidification of the soil, but probably also influences an ammonification activity.
