  • The effects of nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) in the form of ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, sodium sulfate, potassium sulfate and magnesium sulfate and their interactive effects on growth and quality of two cultivars of radish (Raphanus sativus L., var. radicula) were investigated. Both cultivars responded similarly to the same treatment but var. Lidka more sensitively than var. Duo. Single N application stimulated mainly shoot growth. Simultaneous N and S treatment had a clear interactive effect on plant growth, especially growth of bulbs. Nitrogen supply increased total content of N in plant tissues and undesirably enhanced concentration of nitrates in bulbs. Sulfur supply significantly enhanced concentration of S in leaves as well as in bulbs and stimulated N utilization by plants. N/S ratio was in all cases higher in shoots than in bulbs and significantly decreased on the variants where S was applied.   • Byl sledován vliv síry (S) v interakci s dusíkem (N) aplikovaných ve formě dusičnanu amonného, síranu amonného a hořečnatého na růst a kvalitu dvou odrůd ředkvičky (Raphanus sativum, var. radicula ). Obě odrůdy reagovaly podobně, var. Lidka byla ale mnohem citlivější než Duo. Aplikace samotného N stimulovala hlavně růst nadzemních částí. Současná aplikace N a S měla výrazný interaktivní efekt na růst rostlin, zejména tvorbu bulev. Hnojeni N zvyšovalo nejen celkový obsah N v rostlinných tkáních, ale také nežádoucí obsah nitrátů v bulvách. Dodávka S zvyšovala koncentraci S v listech i bulvách a stimulovala využití N rostlinami. Poměr N/S byl ve všech případech vyšší v nadzemních částech než v bulvách a významně se snižoval na variantách se sírou. Současná aplikace obou živin zvyšovala obsah sirných aminokyselin cysteinu a methioninu v bulvách. Hladina vodorozpustné síry 20 mg/kg půdy nebyla dostačující pro intenzivní růst bulev ředkviček.
