| - Vertical Pb concentration gradients and isotope ratios (206Pb/207Pb, 208Pb/207Pb) are reported for five 210Pb-dated Sphagnum peat profiles. The studied peat bogs are in the British Isles and central Europe. We hypothesized that peaks in Pb emissions from smelting, coal burning and gasoline burning, respectively, should be mirrored in the peat profiles. However, a more complicated pattern emerged. We compared maximum annual Pb accumulation rates to atmospheric Pb inputs for each site. In the Ocean bog, maximum of Pb pollution in the 19th century coincided with maximum Pb smelting at Freiberg and Pribram. We calculated percentages of gasoline-derived Pb in peat from mean 206Pb/207Pb ratios of potential pollution sources. These numbers were surprisingly low.

- Na pěti lokalitách (Velká Británie a Česká republika) byly porovnávány historické záznamy emisí olova (z tavení rudy, těžby uhlí a spalování olovnatého benzínu) s rašelinnými profily datovanými olovem 210. V některých případech se píky z historických emisí shodují s koncentračními maximy Pb v rašelinném profilu, v jiných případech se záznamy neshodují. Z izotopových poměrů 206/207 potenciálních zdrojů znečištění bylo vypočteno, že spalování benzínu přispívá k celkovému znečištění olovem v rašelinách méně než 55% ve Velké Británii a méně než 63% v České republice.
