Description
  • Jemnozrnné sedimenty slepého ramene řeky Moravy obsahují tmavší a světlejší vrstvy jílu, prachu, písku a organické hmoty 1,6-3,3 %. (cs)
  • Extractable organic matter in fine-grained billabong sediments of the Morava River provides information on potential environmental contamination. The sediments are stratified, TOC ranges from 1.6 to 3.3%. The n-alkanes show maximum at C29 and a strong preference of the odd-numbered homologues typical for deciduous plant debris without any diagenetic overprint. An associated unresolved compound mixture (UCM) occurrs in the C15-40 range in increasing proportion in the total extractable matter down depth 0.8-1.6 m where it indicates possible petroleum-related contamination. GC-MS analysis of the molecular fossils shows hopane, sterane, and phenanthrene patterns of a thermally mature organic matter similar to that in crude oils generated from source rocks at temperatures over 100 °C. The absence of crude oil-like n-alkanes in the rock extract is understood as a result of microbial degradation of volatile n-alkanes and preservation of the polycyclic hydrocarbons as a more resistant residue.
