Description
| - The aim of the monograph is to present the crafts of Central Asia and the Czech collectors who made a significant contribution to the formation of the Central Asian collection of the National Museum – Náprstek Museum in Prague.. The collection, which has never before been systematically processed, mostly documents the craftsmanship of the period from the second half of the 19th century to the early 20th century. This period is considered one of the most significant in terms of the quality of artistic techniques and style of the area in question. The collection contains examples of a wide range of objects of applied art , especially metalwork in the form of vessels and jewellery, traditional textile work including embroidery, woven fabrics, clothing, and rugs. It also covers ceramics, musical instruments and items of everyday use. The collections, which come from different areas of Central Asia, show the area's artistic development and the changes it underwent in terms of the materials used, ornamentation and production techniques. The monograph is the first comprehensive study to look at both the applied art of the area and the collections that have been preserved in the Czech Republic and which document this art in a representative way.
