Description	Article introduces the method of assessment of rivers and water reservoirs eutrophication by phosphorus concentrations used in the Czech Republic for the purposes of the Water Framework Directive. On the example of procedure of vulnerable zones designation due to eutrophication by Nitrates Directive will be presented procedure how distinguish prevalent phosphorus sources by analysing the proportion of nitrogen inorganic forms in the water. This simple method allows to determine the predominance of agricultural and municipal sources of pollution in the watershed. A more complex method based on balance of phosphorus sources in the watershed and determination of their eutrophication potential will be presented in selected reservoirs watersheds. The procedure allows to determine the predominant type of source for reservoirs eutrophication as well as partial contributions of the individual sources. It is therefore suitable as a supporting tool for programme of measures under the Water Framework Directive.
