Description	The paper deals with clogging of porous filtration medium used in reed bed treatment plants. Physical characteristics of porous filtration medium (granularity, structure, texture, porosity, hydraulic conductivity etc.) determine the final purification effect of the plant. The contribution briefly describes the factors causing clogging, the methods of determination, the influence of clogging and outlines of the research. The results attained clearly show that clogging causes a very distinctive reduction of the hydraulic conductivity of the filtration material, including sand and gravel. This may lead to almost total choking of pores and the consequent passing through along the surface of a filtration reed bed. This may result in odour and aesthetic faults, in death of plants, in the reduction of the effective surface of the filtration field, but above all, in a negative influence on the process of filtration, and thus in the reduction of the treatment efficiency of the plant too.
