Description	Kontrola stavu biotických společenstev v tocích je předmětem stále se vyvíjející řady konceptů toků. V současnosti reprezentuje Rámcová směrnice pro vodní politiku EU systém charakteristik a opatření s účelem zlepšení a efektivního a rozumného užívání vodních ekosystémů, a zavádí koncept Ekologického a Chemického stavu vymezených vodních útvarů. Nicméně charakteristiky biotických společenstev jsou poměrně málo citlivé na současné úrovně znečištění a jsou kontrolovány spíše existencí příslušných habitatů. K získání informace o aktuálních vlivech na ekosystémy je nezbytné kombinovat stanovení Ekologického a Chemického stavu. Na souboru dat o obsahu specifických polutantů v biofilmech a sedimentech v českém úseku Labe je předveden příklad jak lze hledat zdroje stopových polutantů a jak vztahovat diskontinuity znečištění v podélném profilu toku ke stanovování referenčních podmínek. At present, the EU Water Framework Directive represents a set of characteristics and measures with the objective of improving and effectively and wisely using aquatic ecosystems, introducing the concept of an Ecological and Chemical Status of delineated water bodies. Nevertheless, characteristics of biotic communities are relatively non-sensitive to present levels of pollution, being controlled more by the presence of appropriate habitats.
