Description	Impoundments and reservoirs in the Czech part of the Elbe (Labe) basin have some substantial effects on the river ecosystem downstream. Nevertheless, alterations of the water quality do not influence substantially the physical and chemical characteristics on the lower stretches of the river in Germany. As a substantial pressure, obstacles hindering the continuity for fish and other aquatic organisms should be considered. All in all, the situation is improving gradually.
