| - Biotechnological processes include mining, preparation and processing procedures, which use microorganisms or products of their metabolic activity for achievement of necessary qualitative change of raw materials and waste. These systems in fact develop in nature by themselves, and results are utilised by man unconsciously from the very beginning of his evolution. Biotechnologies include knowledge from areas of microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry and several other areas of industry. Biodegradation of hazardous harmful substances in environment represents important promising methods, where complex and environmentally harmful substances are decomposed into simpler (harmless) elements through activity of microorganisms. Internationally, biotechnologies were first time proven in larger scale after damage of Exxon Valdez tanker; since then they are used more and more frequently in most of countries. - Biotechnologické procesy zahrnují postupy těžební, úpravárenské a zpracovatelské, ve kterých se pro dosažení potřebné kvalitativní změny surovina a odpadů využívají mikroorganizmy, popřípadě produkty jejich metabolické činnosti. Ve své podstatě vyvíjí příroda tyto systémy sama a jejich důsledky člověk nevědomě využívá již od počátku svého vývoje. Biotechnologie do sebe zahrnuje poznatky mikrobiologické, biochemické, chemické a některých průmyslových odvětví. Biodegradace nebezpečných škodlivých látek v životním prostředí představují významné perspektivní metody, kdy jsou složité a ekologicky závadné polutanty působením mikroorganismů rozkládány na látky jednodušší (nezávadné). Ve světě se biotechnologie poprvé ve větším měřítku osvědčily při havárii tankeru Exxon Valdez, od této doby jsou stále častěji využívány ve většině zemí.
