Description
| - Planting of frost sensitive broad-leaved tree species next to individuals of original stand is recommended for conversion of young coniferous stands in higher mountain locations of the Czech Republic. Positive shelter effect of these stands is expected, but exact microclimatic studies are rare. Temperature behavior around young individually standing Norway spruce tree (height 2.5 m) in the upper mountain locality of the Krkonoše/Giant Mts was monitored in present study. Temperature sensors were placed 40 cm above ground inside tree crown, in 4 cardinal points in crown perimeter, 60 cm and 150 cm outside the crown perimeter. One year lasting monitoring showed intensive reduction of temperature extremes in crown interior. Temperatures around crown perimeter were significantly influenced by sunshine; effect of sun diminishes 60 cm out of crown. In these localities, frost sensitive tree species should be planted next to western to northern side of the spruce crowns, where positive effect on temperature extremes reduction was also validated.
