| - The most problematic factors of the natural and artificial regeneration of beech in mountain regions are deer browsing and competition of forest weed species. To compare the survival and growth of beech seedlings in relationship to forest weeds in the summit part of the Jizerské hory Mts., 17 - 23 little plots in the variants “C. villosa sparse”, “C. villosa medium dense”, “C. villosa dense”, “Vaccinium myrtillus”, “Avenella flexuosa” and “litter” were established. In autumn 2004, seedlings were counted by age groups; deer browsing and other damages were registered. In 2005, the investigation was supplemented by measurements of height and last height increment. Competition by forest weed was considered a key factor determining the occurrence and growth of the natural regeneration of beech. Selected results were statistically tested by a two-factor ANOVA or non-parametrical Kruskal-Wallis test. No statistically significant differences could be found between the different vegetation types.

- Jedním z nejčastěji zmiňovaných faktorů ovlivňujících vývoj přirozené i umělé obnovy buku jsou okus zvěří a konkurence buřeně. S cílem porovnat přežívání a růst bukových semenáčků ve vztahu k buřeni bylo ve vrcholové části Jizerských hor založeno 17 až 23 výzkumných plošek (2x2 m) v pěti variantách: C. villosa řídká, středně hustá a hustá, Vaccinium myrtillus, Avenella flexuosa a opad. Na podzim roku 2004 na nich byl zjišťován počet semenáčků podle věkových kategorií a poškození, v následujícím roce bylo měření doplněno o měření výšky a posledního výškového přírůstu. Vybrané parametry byly statisticky testovány (? = 0.05); nebyly zjištěny zádně průkazné rozdíly mezi variantami. Výsledky naznačují nepříznivý efekt husté varianty Calamagrostis (? > 7%), nebyl potvrzen předpoklad vyššího výškového přírůstu buku v hustých variantách buřeně jako odpověď na její konkurenci, okus zvěří nebyl průkazně vázán na některý z druhů buřeně.
