Description
  • The purpose of this paper is to describe the technique of modelling fasteners using FEM and to demonstrate its accuracy and capability by examining some examples of practical significance such as the connection of skins on the lower side of wing of small transport aircraft and the global modelling of a mechanical joint connecting metal and composite parts with or without additional bonding. The consideration of fastener stiffness during stress analysis is an integral part of the damage tolerance philosophy for both old new aircraft designs.
