Description
  • The article contains the results obtained during the solving of the problem of the loss of stability (buckling) of thin-walled composite structures. The main motivation was to verify the computation procedures applicable in the finite element method (FEM) to the results acquired by marginal static tests on suitably designed composite spars. The requirements placed on these spars were selected in such a way as to be as close as possible to those placed on real structures, such as the blades of wind turbines, at reasonable cost and with reasonable labour requirements. For the numerical solution, a nonlinear solution was used which allowed us to monitor the initiation, growth, and subsequent failure of the model, and then to fully compare this dependency with the experimental data. During the solution, we also investigated the effect of foam cores and reinforcing spars designed to increase the resistance of the spars that had been designed against the loss of stability.
