Description	Le but de cette contribution est de présenter l'architecture monastique de la Nouvelle Espagne du 16e siècle et sa décoration artistique sous forme de peintures murales et de reliefs sculpturals. L'article présente les différents composants de cette architecture individuelle (surtout les éléments innovants comme les chapelles ouvertes, les chapelles posas ou les croix d'atrium) autant que le programme iconographique de la décoration plastique. Le texte donné est écrit dans l'intention d'interpréter cette architecture et sa décoration artistique par rapport de leurs fonctions en processus de l'évangélisation de la population native mésoaméricaine. Le terme millénarisme s'utilisera pour référer aux activités évangélisatrices des ordres mendiants. L'attention particulière se prêtera aux manifestations de cettes activités dans l'architecture monastique et son art. L'article arrive a la conclusion que le millénarisme se manifestait surtout au milieu de l'Ordre franciscain et comme tel s'apparaissait non seulement dans l'architecture monastique et son art, mais aussi dans les sources écrites. The aim of this article is to present the monastic architecture of the 16th century New Spain and its artistic decoration in form of mural paintings and sculptural reliefs. The article presents every individual elements of this unique architecture (mainly the innovative ones such as open chapels, posas chapels or atrio crosses) as well as the iconographic program of its plastic decoration. However, the focus of this text is the interpretation of this architecture and its artistic decoration in terms of their functions in the process of evangelization of the native population of Mesoamerica. The term millenarianism will be used to refer to the evangelizing activities of the mendicant orders. Special interest will be paid to the manifestations of these activities to the monastic architecture and art. The article concludes that millenarianism manifested mainly in the environment of the Franciscan order and it appeared not only in monastic architecture and art, but also in written sources. (en)
