Ramularia collo-cygni (RCC) is a fungal pathogen that infects both spring and winter barley, and causes the disease called Ramularia leaf spot of barley exhibiting necrotic spots on leaves. The objective of the project is to obtain information about risks of spreading this disease in the Czech Republic. Due to difficult recognition of the pathogen on barley, it is necessary to introduce methods for reliable diagnostics and DNA quantification by molecular methods. Genetic variability in RCC will be carried out using the AFLP technique. With regard to practical barley protection against this pathogen, it is essential to obtain information on resistance of barley genotype as well as suitability of various fungicidal control strategies.
