Biodiversity in cultured breeds of common carp on the level of their maximal genetic variability has to be maintained and protected in order to eliminate problems allied with imbreeding for other breeding work. The decrease of genetic variability in common carp breeds can be caused by the system of broodstock renewal, because fish farmers sometimes use only a few fish due to high reproduction ability of common carp. Moreover, polyspermatic fertilization system is applied in many cases. The aim of this project is to 1) monitor present status of genetic variability in selected common carp breeds, 2) see the trend of its development and 3) find out how the development of genetic variability is affected by the system of broodstock renewal. Results help us to set broodstock renewal system which will protect the genetic variability in carp breeds and other fish species and which will be applicable to fish culture conditions in the Czech Republic.
(cs)
The genetic variability level was designated for selected breeds of common carp and the recovery of breeding fish so as not to undermine their biodiversity. (en)
