  • Major hypothesis Platelets, collagen and neutrophils tightly cooperate to modulate the oxidative burst of phagocytes, production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species by phagocytes and the extent of oxidative stress under pathological conditions. Main objectives to provide new information on the effects of platelet-derived mediators like adenosine and 5-hydroxytryptamine on the production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species by phagocytes under physiological as well as under pathophysiological conditions to evaluate the consequences of oxidative damage on collagen structure and to provide new information on the interactions among collagen (both native and oxidatively modified), platelets and phagocytes under physiological as well as under pathophysiological conditions Secondary objectives better understanding the effects of platelet-derived mediators (adenosine, 5-hydroxytryptamine) and collagen (both non-modified and oxidatively modified) on oxidative burst of professional phago (en)

  • Kolagen, krevní destičky a fagocyty spolupracují v modulaci oxidativního vzplanutí fagocytů a rozsahu oxidativního stresu. Důležitou úlohu v eliminaci nepříznivých důsledků oxidativního vzplanutí fagocytů hraje serotonin, mediátor uvolňovaný z aktivovaných destiček. To může být způsobeno nepřímým účinkem přes 5-HTR2 receptory exprimované ne na povrchu neutrofilů, ale na povrchu jiných leukocytů. (cs)
  • Collagen, platelets and phagocytes cooperate to modulate the oxidative burst of phagocytes and the extent of oxidative stress. Serotonin, a mediator of activated platelets, plays an important role in the depression of adverse impacts of phagocytic oxidative burst. It might be caused be the indirect effects via 5-HTR2 receptors expressed not on the surface of neutrophils but of other leukocytes. (en)
