Description
  • The presented project is focused on a study of alkene radical polymerization, promoted with the Li salts of monocarbadodecaborated, recently briefly described by Prof. Michl's group. Under initiation with the common radical initiation, the systems surprisingly gives rise to to homopolymers of 1-alkenes (from ethylene to 1-hexene) including isobutylene and can thus be regarded as a novel tool for synthesis of polyolefins. Using common systems, known to date, 1-olefins can be polymerizaed only as comonomers with eg., acrylates and, moreover, isobutylene is generally polymerized exclusively by cationic mechanism. Therefore a detailed study of the polymerization promoted with monocarbadodecaborate salts is the main objective of the project, ie., determination of its kinetic and thermodynamic parameters, synthetic potential, structure of the product etc. with the aim to broaden still narrow set of information about this novel polymerization system.   • Cílem projektu je stanovení kinetických parametrů modelové polymerizace 1-olefinů zcela novým [LiCB11(CH3)12] katalyzátorem, reakčních rychlostí dílčích stepů, účinnosti katalyzátoru a aktivačních energií s ohledem na parametry vznikajích polymerů.

  • Projekt byl řešen v kooperaci ÚMCH AV ČR, Praha a University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado, USA a byl zaměřen na studium radikálové polymerizace kapalných 1-olefinů aktivované solemi karboranů. Produktem jsou pouze nízkomolekulární oligomery dosažené konverse převážně nízké. Plynné alkeny polymerisují za stejných podmínek na výšemolekulární produkty, příčiny těchto rozdílů nejsou zatím jasné. (cs)
  • The project was studied in a cooperation of IMC, Prague and University of Colorado, USA and was focused on investigation of radical 1-olefine polymerization activated with carborane salts. Polymerization produces low-molecular-weight oligomers and monomer convesions are also rather low. Surprisingly, gaseous olefins give higher-mol.-weight products the reasons of the difference are not clear yet. (en)
