Description	VONS was formed as an oppositional initiative in order to follow the maintenance of human and civic rights in 1978 April. Its members published the cases of political persecution of both the well-known members of dissent and the cases of persons who would other wise have remained unknown (both at home and abroad). Partial studies have already been published regarding the CDUP activities; no monograph has been compiled so far, though. The CDUP activities covered a significant part of the political repression during the last twelve years of Communist rule; its notes and statements became a basis for talks between the Western diplomats and the Eastern bloc. Since 2005 January, a new Archive Law has been applied in practice that enables the researchers to make use of file agenda of the former Secret Police, besides of the other sources available earlier. Our topic, therefore, enables to depict the mechanisms of political repressions in an authoritarian regime. (en) Výbor na obranu nespravedlivě stíhaných (VONS) vznikl v dubnu 1978 jako opozičně orientovaná iniciativa sledující dodržování lidských a občanských práv a zveřejňující případy politického pronásledování v širším slova smyslu. Jeho členové informovali nejen o případech známých disidentů, ale i o kauzách osob, o kterých bych se bez pomoci VONS doma i v zahraničí nevědělo. K opozičním aktivitám členů VONS byly již sice publikovány dílčí studie, edice dokumentů a rozhovory s pamětníky, doposud však nevyšla podrobná historická monografie. Činnost VONS přitom postihla významnou část politické represe v posledních dvanácti letech komunistického režimu a jeho sdělení se staly součástí podkladů západních diplomatů pro jednání s východním blokem. Jedním z důvodů tohoto stavu je skutečnost, že zásadní zlom pro bádání přineslo od ledna 2005 nové znění archivního zákona. Umožňuje také při výzkumu využít, vedle ostatních, již dříve dostupných typů pramenů, systematicky využít k tématu dokumenty StB.
