Description
  • Current data indicate the role of preceptor corticosteroid metabolism (steroid oxidoreductases) in the tissue-specific control of corticosteroid functions in mammals. One of the enzymes involved in this control is 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11HSD), however, this enzyme cannot account fully for the control of steroid specificity. The goal is to understand the tissue-specific preceptor modulation of corticosteroid and progesterone signals in birds. Four specific aims are proposed: (1) metabolism of flucocorticosteroids and progesterone and its distribution i nthe intestine, oviduct, and brain, (2) rebulation of 11HSD and 20-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (20HSD) activity by hormones and endogenous inhibitors, (3) the role of 11 HSD and 20HSD in steroid regulation of intestinal sodium transport and secretion of egg-white proteins in oviduct and (4) the interaction of environmental factors (nutrition, pesticides) with steroid oxidoreductases.   • Řada údajů ukazuje na možnou roli preceptorového metabolismu kortikosteroidů v určení tkáňové specifičnosti kortikosteroidních funkcí u savců. Jedním z enzymů, který se v této regulaci uplatňuje je dehydrogenáza 11beta-hydroxysteroidů (11HSD), avšak tento enzym nemůže být jediný,m který hraje roli při řízení tkáňové specifičnosti. Cílem projektu je objasnění role tkáňové specifické preceptorové modulace kortikosteroidních a progesteronových signálů u ptáků. Jsou navrhovány 4 cíle: (1) metabolismus glukokortikoidů a progesteronu a jeho distribuce ve střevu, vejcovodu a mozku, (2) regulace aktivity 11HSD a dehydrogenázy 20-hydroxysteroidů (20HSD) hormony a inhibitory, (3) role 11HSD a 20HSD ve steroidní regulaci socíkového transportu ve střevu a v sekreci proteinu vaječného bílku ve vejcovodu a (4) interakce faktorů prostředí (výživa a pesticidy) se steroidními dehydrogenázami.
