Description	The submitted project develops the research into the English Gothic novel and its influence on the English literature of the 19th and the 20th centuries. It will concentrate on the developmental transformations of traditional Gothic motives, theirmeaningand function, which will be observed with respect to the development of children´s literature. The study, based on a comparative method, will draw on both literary history (the influence of the Gothic novel as a specific genre and the individualcontribu tion of particular authors) and literary theory (the importance of the aesthetic category of the sublime, the problem of identity and its link to the theme of otherness, mystery and the supernatural). The principal aim of the project is todiscuss particular works of children´s literature in a wider literary and theoretical context and to employ modern theoretical attitudes (eg archetypal or psychoanalytical criticism) in the interpretation of children´s stories. Through the discussions (en) Projekt navazuje na výzkum v oblasti anglického gotického románu a jeho vlivu na anglickou literaturu 19. a 20.století. Jeho hlavní náplní bude zkoumání vývojových proměn některých tradičních gotických motivů, jejich významu a funkce v souvislostis vývojem anglické dětské literatury. Tento vztah bude posuzován z hlediska literárně historického (vliv gotického románu jako žánrového typu a přínos jednotlivých spisovatelů) a teoretického (význam estetické kategorie vznešena, problematika identityv souvislosti s tématy jinakosti, tajemna a nadpřirozena), přičemž důkaz bude kladen na komparativní koncepci. Hlavním cílem je tak zařazení konkrétních děl anglické dětské literatury do širšího literárně teoretického kontextu a v souvislosti s tímvyužití moderních teoretických postupů (např. archetypální či psychoanalytická kritika). Výzkum bude též zaměřen na získání nejnovějších teoretických informací v daném oboru prostřednictvím kontaktu s odborníky z ostatních univerzit včetně zahraničních
