Description
  • The main idea of this project is to study the redox properties of biologically active, reactive intermediates from redox reaction of anticancer drugs - radiosensitizers by means of electrochemical methods. Pharmacological and toxic effects of these drugs depend on the reduction of the reactive group producing the radical species. Parameter E71, an important indicator of the activity of radiosensitizers usually measured by pulse radiolysis, will be calculated from voltammetric data. Intramolecular electronic communication between two redox centers of the selected radiosensitizers will be also studied. Due to this interaction, oxidation of one centre can decrease the energy E71 necessary to reduce the other, pharmacologically important one. Therefore, this communication can enhance pharmacological effect of radiosensitizers. Theoretical, ab initio and DFT calculations of E71 will support experimental results. A better understanding of the redox properties of radiosensitizers can lead to the development of more active and safer drugs. (en)
