Description
  • Photocatalytic degradation on titanium dioxide represents an advanced technology for removing of organic and microbial contamination of water with the use of sunlight. It is based photogeneration of separated charges in the semiconductor phase. Their transfers across the interface can induce redox reactions in the aqueous phase leading up to the complete mineralization of present organic compounds. The aims of proposed project are (i) synthesis of nanocrystalline anatase in the form of both quantum sized particles, and highly ordered mesoscopic layers, (ii) characterization and comparison of their physical properties and photoactivity, (iii) investigation of the influence of charge transfer surface complexes on the photocatalytic activity of Ti02, (iv) kinetic and mechanistic study of the photocatalytic degradation of selected organic pollutants (e.g., pesticides from a group of 1,2,4-triazol).
