| Description
| - The current computer science has a so broad scope that it is hard for scientists from different sub-areas to understand each other and to communicate and exploit results of close but different sub-areas. This barrier slows down research progress due to a “reinventing wheel” effect and so it is important to re-establish awareness about results and challenges of various sub-areas of computer science especially in the early stage of research career. The proposed project “Res Informatica” targets the above communication gap and it aims at widening horizons of PhD students beyond the topic of their thesis. The project involves selected students of all branches of the PhD Program “Computer Science” provided at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University in Prague in collaboration with the Inst. of Computer Science of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The project fosters collaboration between the local students via joined meetings and seminars and it provides a financial support to students to attend international meetings and to establish new personal contacts there. The joint project will also strengthen education in general scientific methodology that is critical for all students independently of their study branch. (en)
- Současná informatika má tak široký záběr, že je těžké pro odborníky z různých podoblastí si navzájem porozumět, vyměňovat a využívat výzkumné výsledky z příbuzných, ale přesto jiných oblastí. Tato bariéra zpomaluje inovační pokrok kvůli efektu „znovu objevování kola“, a je proto důležité obnovovat povědomí o výsledcích a výzvách různých podoblastí informatiky a to již v raném stadiu výzkumné kariéry. Navrhovaný projekt „Res Informatica“ překlenuje právě zmíněnou komunikační propast a soustředí se na rozšíření obzorů doktorandů nad rámec jejich aktuálního výzkumného tématu. Projekt zahrnuje vybrané studenty doktorského programu Informatika, který nabízí Matematicko-fyzikální fakulta Univerzity Karlovy v Praze ve spolupráci s Ústavem informatiky Akademie věd ČR. Projekt podporuje spolupráci mezi místními studenty prostřednictvím společných setkání a seminářů a poskytuje finanční podporu pro cesty studentů na mezinárodní konference, kde mohou získat další důležité osobní kontakty. Společný projekt také posiluje vzdělávání v obecné vědecké metodologii, která je důležitá pro všechny studenty napříč celým spektrem studijních oborů.

| - Projekt přispěl ke zvýšení úspěšnosti a kvality doktorského studia na MFF UK. Bylo podpořeno celkem 29 studentů, z toho 6 již obhájilo disertační práci. Studenti v rámci projektu vyprodukovali celkem 87 publikací, z toho řada je velmi kvalitních. Projekt splnil své cíle, finanční prostředky byly vynaloženy rozumně a účelně. (cs)
- The project contributed to the increase in the number and quality of successfully defended PhD theses at MFF UK. In total, 29 PhD students participated in the project, and 6 o f them already received their PhD. The total number of papers published by the participating students reached 87, and many of them are of remarkable quality. The financial resources have been used efficiently. (en)
