Description
  • Grasses and dicotyledonous forbs represent two essential, complementary functional groups in all grassland communities, but comparative studies under realistic field conditions are missing. In this experiment, we will separate the roles played by grasses and forbs in community functioning by experimentally manipulating a grassland community, weeding out one of the two functional groups. We will study the effects of grasses and forbs upon the community-level exploitation characteristics, such as the distribution of belowground biomass, intensity of mycorrhizal symbiosis, and changes in nutrient budgets. We will explore the effects of functional group removal on the phenology and reproductive effort, as well as the changes in microclimate, affecting seedling survival. Proposed study will provide new knowledge, complementing results of large-scale synthetic assemblage experiments. In addition, it offers verification of selected results of these experiments, but under more natural conditions. (en)
  • Projekt srovnává úlohu trav a dvouděložných bylin pomocí manipulace existujícího společenstva. Studuje vliv trav a dvouděložných druhů na distribuci podzemních orgánů a mykorrhizní symbiózu, hospodaření se živinami, na fenologii a reproduktivní úsilí druhů, a také na mikroklimatické podmínky.
