Description
  • The aim of proposed project is research of original physical method of atomic iodine (AI) generation for a chemical oxygen-iodine laser (COIL) and a discharge oxygen-iodine laser (DOIL). The proposed method is based on radio-frequency discharge dissociation of iodine donors directly inside an iodine injector with subsequent immediate supersonic injection of AI into COIL or DOIL. Our method substitutes the classic generation of AI by singlet oxygen (SO), it saves SO energy for laser generation and it increases efficiency of COIL and DOIL. This unique method also significantly minimizes losses by iodine recombination and losses by premature quenching of SO. It will enable an increase of laser power by tens percent without an increase of SO pumping. This method is a promising alternative to the chemical generation of AI and also a more efficient alternative to other discharge methods of AI generation for COIL and DOIL. Compared to the chemical generation of AI, the discharge method does not use dangerous gases chlorine or fluorine. The method will be studied at first without SO and after achieving sufficient concentrations of AI it will be tested with SO in the mode of laser amplifier and consecutively laser oscillator. (en)
