Description	The project draws on four years of research at the University of Ostrava’s Centre for Economic and Social History verifying the applicability of research methods and assessing sources. The first main thesis of the research is the claim that although the process of modernization was a global phenomenon, it took various different forms depending on specific regional features. The second thesis is that the complex of changes forming the historical process of modernization is the result of an interaction of exogenous and endogenous factors in the economic and social sphere of each region. The effects of these factors result in a new reality that is qualitatively and quantitatively different from the previous situation. The goal of the project is to verify these two theses and to plug a gap in Czech historiography – which still lacks a study dealing with the issue in a comprehensive way within a selected historical region. The basic research of the historical process of modernization will focus on the historical province of Austrian Silesia from the mid-18th century to 1914. (en) Předkládaný projekt navazuje na čtyřletý výzkum Centra pro hospodářské a sociální dějiny FF OU, který prověřoval použitelnost pramenné základny a nosnost výzkumných metod. První základní teoretickou tezí výzkumu je tvrzení, že proces modernizace byl ve svém důsledku globálním jevem, jeho samotný průběh však vykazoval odlišnosti dané regionálními specifiky. Druhou teoretickou tezí je představa, že soubor změn, vytvářející historický proces modernizace, je výsledkem interakce exogenních a endogenních faktorů v ekonomické a společenské sféře daného regionu. Výsledkem působení těchto faktorů má být nová kvalitativně i kvantitativně odlišná skutečnost. Smyslem předkládaného výzkumu je prověřit nosnost a smysluplnost těchto teoretických tezí a současně zaplnit deficit v české historiografii, v níž stále absentuje snaha uchopit tuto problematiku celistvě v rámci vybraného historického regionu. Základní výzkum problematiky historického procesu modernizace bude realizován v historických hranicích Rakouského Slezska pro období od druhé poloviny 18. století do roku 1914.
