Nitrous oxide (N2O) is the compound depleting the ozone layer and contributing to the greenhouse effect. The catalytic decomposition to oxygen and nitrogen is the promising method for abatement of N2O emissions. The project is concerned with an investigation of new mixed oxide based catalysts suitable for N2O decomposition. The catalysts will be prepared by thermal treatment of hydrotalcite-like precursors and modified by various promoters (alkali and noble metals) introduced in the stage of coprecipitation and/or impregnation. Furthermore, the deposition of such oxide catalysts on pre-formed supporting materials will be also studied. The aim of the project is to extend the knowledge about mechanism of N2O decomposition in the presence of mixed oxide catalysts and examine an influence of presence and concentration of promoters on this reaction.
