Potatoes are one of the ten most important commodities in the Czech Republic and their quality is, consequently, of considerable economic and social importance. The changing environment and climate leads to a decreasing quality of soil and also to diminishing of the natural plant protection by associated organisms. The goal of the project is to employ diversity of microorganisms from soils suppressive to common potato scab in search for antagonistic strains regulating the disease. Methods of molecular biology will be used in the microbial communities’ descriptions, quantification of pathogenic organisms and characterization of antagonistic microorganisms. Cultivation and chemical-analytical methods will enable determination of organisms utilizable in improvement of soils with high disease incidence. The project outcomes will be elaborated in a predictive model and serve farmers in planning their growing and fertilizing activities. Bacterial inoculums will be prepared for future use in disease preventi (en)
