| Description
| - The primary aim of the project is to understand the firm-level underpinnings of growth, improvement of productivity and wellfare. Essential questions to be analyzed include the relationship between firms’ innovation activity and competition, how R&D and patenting are linked to productivity growth and employment. Our preliminary hypothesis is that there exist systematic links between innovation activity of firms and competition. To support the theoretical considerations with evidence, we will conduct firm-level data analysis that covers the period 1998–2008. The major novelty of our approach is the attempt to match the balance sheet data with firm records on R&D, innovation, patents and licenses from surveys conducted at the firm level by the Czech Statistical Office. Our analysis should enable to draw useful implications for competition policy and industrial policies. (en)
