Description
  • The major goal of this proposal is to study the role of probiotic bacterial strains Gram+ (Lactobacilli) and Gram- (non-pathogenic Escherichia coli) on the regulation of cytokine expression, signaling molecules NF-&#954B and p38 MAPK and apoptotic markers (Bax, Akt, Bcl2) in IEC-18 cells on the tranional and translational levels. This IEC-18 cell line is derived from rat ileum, the distal part of the small intestine mostly affected by inflammation. Cytokines and chemokines (such as IL-18, IL-6, IL-8, MCP-1, MIP-1alpha, MIP-1beta constitutively expressed by IEC-18 cells will be evaluated in these studies. In addition, gene and protein expression of family of TLR receptors and tight junction proteins will be evaluated. Activation of associate signaling pathways in epithelial cells as a result of exposure to probiotic bacteria will be studied. (en)
