(cs)
The sheep tick, Ixodes ricinus (L.) is an important parasite of man and animals and the main vector of Lyme borreliosis and tick borne encephalitis in Europe. The overal aim of the project is to receive better knowledge of tick sexual behaviour, to isolate, characterize and identify the sexual pheromones and utilize them for disturbance of tick sexual behaviour. Artificially overcrowded ambient with these pheromones may cause the desorientation of males and their unability to localizate females andmate. Non mated females are not able to reproduce or succesfully feed on host. The long time male locomotive activity may exhaust its ability to copulate. The natural low population density of adults in vegetation (1-2 adult/m2) makes the contact of bothsexes and susccess of mating unlikely. Further reduction due to the pheromone/acaricide treatment would reduce this level even further, perhaps to the point where mating does not occur. (en)
