Description
| - The paper presents essential differences in the small catchment model behaviour depending on the assumed runoff procedure, i.e. infiltration and/or saturation excess. It suggests appropriate model structure and way to obtain required boundary conditions. Recently still more attention has been paid to the flood mitigation measures applied at the point of flood's origin - in the small catchments. Prediction of the small catchment behaviour under variety of conditions requires reliable hydrological model, since long time series of data are rather rare. Simple models do not seem to be capable to reflect all necessary variables and their distribution; however more comprehensive models are usually very demanding with respect to input data. A model of Bykovicky stream catchment (6.3 km2) was built in the physically based distributed model GSSHA. From two years of rainfall-runoff data several events were selected and used for model calibration. Gradually model was changed in order to better explain observed data. First modelling outcomes suggested significant influence of saturation excess on flood hydrographs in most of modelled scenarios. For its inclusion the model needs to contain groundwater related processes, but the data on groundwater table position was not available. Therefore simple method how to obtain it was proposed and tested. The paper discusses achievements of this modelling experiment.
