Description
| - Creep data obtained for an equiaxed-.gamma. Ti-52at%oAl intermetallic compound at temperatures 1050, 1000 and 1150 K and applied stresses within 50-300 MPa are summarized. It is shown that after approximately 10% of transition strain,the creep behaviour of the pure-.gamma. phase can be rationalized in terms of substructure controlled creep. The transition strain is analysed in view of new microstructural observations. It has been verified again that the pre-heating treatment has a pronounced effecton the creep strain accumulation kinetics in the transition strain period. Microstructural changes associated with the pre-heating and subsequent creep are investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It is suggested that oxide particles, the size of which exceeds 1 .mu.m, facilitate the nucleation of twins. The pinning of dislocations by fine H-phase particles (-10 nm in size) is discussed.
