  • The effect of anhydrous ammonia added to alfalfa hay on the content of total N, rumen degradability of crude protein, content of ammonia, and formol titration was studied in a semi-operation experiment. Forage was sampled 1 to 56 days after storage. The and digestibility of crude protein were observed during wilting and storage analysed. The ammoniation of alfalfa hay (DM 700 g/kg) with 0.97 % of anhydrous ammonia influenced significantly (P<0,05) content of ammonia, and formol titration. The highest tountreated hay was in ammoniated hay (20.22%). The difference between the content of crude protein in dry matter of untreated hay and of ammonia treated during drying was not significant. The rumen degradability of crude protein was by ammoniated hay signhigher (71.87 %) as compared with untreated hay (68.31 %).
