  • Microstructural changes, i.e. , chromium depletion in the vinicity of chromium rich precipitates at grain boudaries, provoked in stainless steels at elevated temperatures an increase of the susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. Several methodes are used to assess the sensitisation in austenitic stainless steel AISI 316L to intergranular corrosion was evaluated by means of variation electrochemical tests : electrolytic etching in oxalic acid, Constant Potential Etching (CPE) and Electrochemical Potentiokinetic Reactivation (EPR) test (regarding current values, current densities and electrical charges relating to the polarization curves) completed by metallographical control after each test. The tested specimens were isothermally treated in the temperature range 600-800 °C for times from 1 to 8000 hours.
