Description
| - As compared to the glass melting in furnaces fired by fossil fuels, the electric melting of some types of glasses offers a variety of benefits which make its continuous use possible. There is a wealth of theoretical knowledge and practical experience regarding the electric melting but, nevertheless, this technology of glass melting has not stopped being a topic of research and investigation. The investigation activities mainly concentrate on the application of methods enabling the modeling of all-electric furnaces and, in particular, on the mathematical modeling. The results obtained by modeling are evaluated with the aid of criteria specifically conceived for this purpose (electric and non-electric ones). The operation of an electric tank furnace with the output of 2 tons a day (two types of lead crystal glasses) is assessed in the present paper. A thorough evaluation of both types of criteria has given the possibility to determine which of the two furnaces is more advantageous from the viewpoint of its operation.
