The project critically explores American homosexual prose published after 1945 from the narratological perspective, with regard to its historical development and thematic structure. The research focuses on research into novels portraying the homosexual experiences of men because these novels, with the exception of those by several well-known authors (Baldwin, Capote), lie on the fringe of general interest of Czech scholars. The research study will systematically distinguish between the historical or social importance of the works and their literary value and point out the greatest differences which lead to a distorted perception of gay literature. The results of the research will be published in the form of a monograph intended both for scholars and general public and will fill a significant gap in the contemporary understanding of American literature and literary history in general.
