Description
  • Annual losses caused by metal corrosion in CR are estimated up to 3,5 % of GDP (ca 120 bil. CZK). Very dangerous type of damage to construction caused by corrosion, in terms of its reliability, is a stress corrosion (SC) cracking. SC cracking is initiated by coaction of corrosive aggressive environment and mechanical stress. The result of this process is damage to construction integrity by cracks. Fracture mechanics is the basic tool for evaluating the safety of such damaged construction. Specifically, it concerns the fracture toughness (FT), which describes the resistance against fracture. The crucial question of the effect of SC crack on FT of material is not completely explained so far. The basis of the project is to carry out, with the use of experimental work and fracture-mechanical evaluation, the quantitative evaluation of the effect of aggressive environment on the change of FT of material. The aim of this project is to evaluate, both qualitatively and quantitatively, the level of dangerousness of prediction of fracture parameters for a structure with SC crack, as for as the prediction comes from FT determined on specimens with fatigue cracks. (cs)
