Description
| - Po více než čtyřicet let je ultra vysokomolekulární polyethylen používán jako nosný materiál u totálních kyčelních náhrad. Tření mezi polymerem a kovovou či keramickou částí náhrady vede ke vzniku otěrových částic, které jsou uvolňovány z prostoru kloubu a jsou příčinou zánětlivých reakcí, které mohou vést až k aseptickému selhání kosti. Otěrové částice mají velikosti od submikronů až po několik milimetrů. Je obecně přijímáno, že částice pod 10 .mu.m vykazují nejvyšší biologickou aktivitu. Vznik otěru ve velikosti několika nanometrů byl prokázán v otěrovém simulátoru. Naše práce poprvé prokázala, že je produkován take in vivo. (cs)
- Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) has been used as a bearing material in total joint replacements (TJR) for more than forty years. Friction between polymer and metallic/ceramics components of TJR leads to generation of UHMWPE wear particles, which are released from the joint space and cause complex inflammatory reactions leading to aseptic bone loosening. The wear particles have sizes range from submicron to several-millimeters. It is generally accepted that particles below 10 .mu.m exhibit the highest biological activity. The existence of nano-sized particles was proof in a multidirectional pin on plate wear simulator. Our work brings the first proof that nano-sized wear particles are produced also in vivo.
