Description
  • Due to high costs of measurements in industrial combustion units as well as in experimental furnaces, there is a steady grow in the usage of computational methods for assessment of the performance of burners and other combustion devices. However, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology that is employed in these simulations is not yet fully mature and therefore experimental validation is usually still required. In this presentation we relate experimental results obtained in a test furnace for an industrial low-NOx burner and complement them with results from a CFD simulation. Furthermore, these two sets of results are studied in a common framework of a simplified approach for NOx emissions prediction. The burner used for this work has staged inlet ports (nozzles) both for fuel and combustion air. This arrangement is proven to provide very low NOx emission levels but there are many design parameters that play major role in the actual performance of the burner and experimental optimisation of all
