Description
  • Narcolepsy is a neurological disease characterized especially by excessive daytime sleepiness. It presents with two forms – narcolepsy with cataplexy (N+C) and without cataplexy (N-C). Pathophysiology of N+C is known to some degree but the same is not true for N-C (and N-C is far less frequent as well). This project is focused on clinical picture in different age groups, on unexplained comorbidities (particularly obesity and the possibility of its management), on sizes of certain brain structures and on REM sleep without atonia. We will analyze differences between N+C and N-C. The study will be performed with use of questionnaires, scales, polysomnography and modern methods of brain imaging, such as volumometry and quantitative electroencephalography. The study should help to recognize the cause of the disease and thus make causal treatment more possible. (en)
  • Narkolepsie je neurologické onemocnění charakterizované zejména nadměrnou denní spavostí. Má dvě varianty - s kataplexií (N+C) a bez kataplexie (N-C). Studie má napomoci poznání příčiny choroby a tím přiblížit kauzální léčení.
