Vaccinium bracteatum is a shrub that grows to 1.0 meters (3.3 feet) high by 0.5 meters (1.65 feet) wide and prefers sandy loam soil with an acid pH and partial to full sun with moderate moisture. The plant has been used in the treatment of cancer, according to literature. The aim of this proposal is to identify compound(s) responsible for biological (mainly anticancer) activity and evaluate possibility of their production using in vitro techniques including utilization of bioreactor for production scale-up.
