DEFINITION
  • A species of obligately aerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is motile by single polar flagellum, alpha glucosidase and alkaline phosphatase positive, catalase positive, has pink tinted colonies, and produces acid from galactose, xylose and methanol. M. mesophilicum is an opportunistic but rare human pathogen and is normally found from environmental sources such as soil and vegetation.NCI
