Description
  • The territory of East Kazakhstan shows a complex Quaternary history and the associated environmental transformations reflected by intensive geomorphic processes related to the past global climate evolution in conjunction with the regional neotectonic activity. The territory represents a significant source of terrestrial palaeoclimate proxies in the continental Eurasia, mainly of aeolian deposits, linking the East European, Chinese and the Central Asian loess provinces. The marked climatic changes are evidenced by the preserved palaeo-landscape forms in both the mountain and steppe regions, as well as by the glacial and sedimentary geology, palaeoecology proxy records indicating long-term variations in temperature as well as humidity. The regional diversity of the Quaternary atmospheric circulation dynamics and the related near-surface clastic sediment flows is significantly pre-disposed by the local topography, with spectacular, up to 300 m-high sand dune fields Differences in the specific parent material mineralogy in conjunction with the regional Quaternary climate regimes and sediment weathering processes are assumed to be the principal factors beyond the recorded %22mixed%22 one-section MS variations with the dominant soil-enriched MS trends.
