Description
  • The study examines effects of spontaneous breathing on regional lung characteristics in experimental animal model of mild lung injury during HFOV. Spontaneous breathing during HFOV results in lung volume preservation and improved ventilation in dependent lung areas and does not result in regional hyperinflation. These results underline the importance of maintaining spontaneous breathing during HFO ventilation and support efforts to optimize HFO ventilators to facilitate patients spontaneous breathing.
