  • In the workplace of the training reactor VR-1, the scin-tillation detector NaI(Tl) was not used routinely. On ac-count of better energy resolution, the semiconductor HPGe detector is successfully utilized to train students and for scientific purposes. However, in some cases of nuclear gamma-ray spectroscopy, the semiconductor HPGe detector is not possible to employ and the solution is to use the scintillation detector. This paper points to the possibility of utilizing the scintillation detector for extension the training of students and for scientific purposes. For comparison of the HPGe semiconductor and scintillation NaI(Tl) detectors, the comparative neutron activation analysis experiments for amount of substance determination in several coins and neutron field parameters measurement in experimental channel of training reactor VR-1 by dosimetry foils activation were used. Based on experimental results, the new experimental task at the training reactor VR-1 for students was prepared.
