The paper focuses on the structure of austenitic steel used for the glass moulding. These products are exposed to a long-lasting thermo-mechanical load. The degradation process proceeds on their surface. The failure shows as cracks and considerable asperity leading even to deformation of thin parts. In order to stretch out the life span of the glass moulds it is necessary to change the heat-treating process, geometry and pay attention to current checks. (en)
