Description	The aim of the artical is to present the theory of historical materialism leading english political philosopher and fouder of analytical Marxism, Gerald Cohen. First of all I show main features of analytical marxism, Cohen’s work and its goals. Then I introduce basic concepts his material theory of history, particularly forces of productions, relations of productions, economic base and superstructure. The following section is devoted to the thourough analysis of connections betwen these concepts and presentations of thesis of development of the productive forces and the cases for primacy of the productive forces. The next section is focused upon methodological issues of regarding problems with functional explanation of primacy of the productive forces. Finally I try to clarify and evaluate presented conception of historical materialism. Ukazuje podrobně jeho teorii a metodu (založenou na pojmové analýze). Teorie vysvětluje vývoj dějin rozvojem výrobních technologií, které určují proměnu sociálních vztahu. Tento vztah však není možné chápat jako jednosměrný, ale je třeba ho analyzovat pomocí funkcionálního vysvětlení. (en)
